Brit supergranny takes to road at 101!

London, June 30: At the age of 101, many people would be happy to rest and enjoy a quiet life. But Brit grandmother Winifred Hudson, however, believes is too young relax.

Hudson has entered a five-kilometre race and will take her place next month in the Race for Life, an event that has inspired thousands of women across the region.

“I liked trying something new,” The Sun quoted her, as saying.

“My daughter had cancer, so I’m doing it for her. I’m looking forward to it,” she added.

Hudson has pledged to complete at least half the 5km race in York, on July 6, on her own two feet, with a wheelchair for back-up if needed.

The centenarian, who has lived in Bedale, North Yorkshire, for the past 25 years, signed up for the event after taking part in the Breath of Fresh Air Week organised by the National Association of Activities for Older People.

“She is very mobile. Her ambition is to go up in a helicopter,” manager Sandra Anderson said.

Race for Life in 2007 saw 665,000 women raise £40million.

Nicola Staples, from organisers Cancer Research UK, said: “Winifred is amazing – an absolute inspiration.”
