Mumbai, July 03: Who else can carry the role of a Nawab with panache, other than Bollwood’s original ‘Chote Nawab’ Saif Ali Khan? Unconventional director Sudhir Mishra is said to have roped in the actor for his upcoming period flick, ‘The Nawab, The Nautch Girl & The Johns Company’.
This is Saif’s second period film after Vidhu Vinod Chopra`s ‘Parineeta’, where he played his character to perfection. In the film, Saif is to play ‘the Nawab’, while actress Chitrangada Singh is cast opposite him as ‘the Nautch Girl’. Set against 1857 Lucknow, the story is about a Nawab named Lafaaz, whose character is drawn from historical figures like Wajid Ali Shah and Bahadur Shah Zafar.
Mishra, currently making his version of Devdas titled ‘Aur Devdas’, is all praises for Saif Ali Khan. He says that the character Lafaaz has an easy boyish charm and regality, which is so inherent to Saif. ‘The Nawab, The Nautch Girl & The Johns Company’ is a big project with a budget of around Rs 40 - 50 lakh.
It would certainly be fun to watch out the original ‘Chote Nawab’ doing the Nawab act onscreen. What say, Begum Bebo?
