Review: ‘Jaane Tu…’ belongs to ‘chocolaty’ Imran Khan

Spicezee Bureau

‘Jaane Tu…’ may not be a different ‘love story’ with a fresh plot, but debutant Imran Khan steals the show with his cute looks and histrionic skills. Here comes a nephew, who perfectly fits his chocolaty uncle’s shoes.

Aamir Khan became the nation’s heartthrob with his debut QSQT, and this time it is his nephew Imran Khan, whose onscreen charisma would draw sighs from ladies in the theatre. Genelia D’Souza looks good as long as she keeps mum, but the moment she opens her mouth, her bad dialogue delivery disappoints.

‘Jaane Tu…’ is not as great as Mansoor Khan’s QSQT, it has an average script, music (besides two songs) and treatment. The movie is another funky college centric flick, narrated by a bunch of college friends. The movie becomes a drag at times and has some average comic sequences, which lack consistency. However, debutante director Abbas Tyrewala has managed pretty well on the directorial front.

The story revolves around the central character Jai Singh Rathod played by Imran Khan. Jai aka ‘Rats’ is by far the most non-violent Rajput, who hates to pick up fights. And then comes the violent, bubbly Aditi Mahan aka ‘Meow’, who is quite a bashing up kinds. She screams, she shouts and brings the whole house down. The only person who can calm her is her best buddy, Jai.

In short, the two are fitted perfectly together (once again proving the age long theory of opposites attract). The entire world around them is aware of the chemistry between them but they are too good friends to think on such lines. And finally, before it is too late, they know that it is love…!

The group of friends comprises Karan (as Rotlu), Alishka (as Bombs), Nirav (as Jiggy) and Sughanda (as Shaleen) - the actors have done a good job. Ratna Pathak Shah and Naseerudin Shah are at their best. Jayant Kripalani and Anuradha Patel (as Genelia`s parents) are sweet and Ayaz Khan (as Genelia`s fiance) registers an impressive impact. Paresh Rawal, is wonderful as ever in a comic role. However, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan irritate with their over the top comic sequences.

Over-all, the film is a good one-time watch, if one wants to relive those breezy college times. Three stars for the flick!
