New Delhi, Aug 15: All singers have their favourite genres and for Roop Kumar Rathod, Sufi songs are his first love.
After a soulful rendition of `Maula mere maula` for the movie `Anwar`, Rathod has sung another Sufi song titled `Teri justajoo` that he says is an extension of the previous one.
`Teri Justajoo` is a Sufi song and has been compiled by music director Kuldip Singh`s son Harpreet. This song is actually an extension of my song `Maula mere maula`,` Rathod said.
`Teri Justajoo` is the only fresh song in an album of the same name, which is a compilation of popular songs by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, AR Rahman and Kailash Kher among others.
Rathod, known for his popular numbers like `Tere liye` in `Veer-Zaara`and `Zindagi maut na ban jaye` in Aamir Khan starrer `Sarfarosh`, says he has a soft corner for Sufi songs.
`I have always had an inclination towards Sufi songs and it is my first love. Even this new album is a Sufiana one,` Rathod said.
The Sufi flavour is dominating Bollywood music now, says the singer.
`It is a cycle. During 1980-85, ghazals were popular. Later techno music gained popularity and disco songs gained momentum. These days it is Sufi songs. It is a good thing,` Rathod said.
