New Delhi, Aug 24: The memories of legendary playwright Vijay Tendulkar will come alive in New Jersey, US, next month when cultural boundaries among South Asian countries dissolve with the Victoria Theatre showcasing some of the best plays from the Indian sub-continent.
The three-day third edition of the festival, beginning on September 26, showcasing the cultural facets of South Asia through theatre, music, dance forms, spoken words and a panel discussion examining the region`s socio-cultural issues and traditions.
This year`s festival will be dedicated to legendary playwright Vijay Tendulkar, who died on May 19 this year, as a tribute to his contribution to theatre as a multifaceted stage personality, Dr Dipan Ray, a member of the organising committee said.
He said plans are afoot to take the theatre festival out of New Jersey and hold it in India and Bangladesh in the coming years.
A highlight of this year`s festival will be the coming together of some of the leading theatre personalities from South Asia, including Amol Palekar, at an interactive session on "South Asian Theatre: Expanding Frontiers".
Among others who will be present are Joanna Sherman (Bond Street Theater, NY), Mahmud Shah Salimi (Director, Exile Theater, Afghanistan), Ashok Mukherjee (former faculty from National School of Drama, Delhi ), Mamunur Rashid (noted playwright and theater director from Bangladesh) and Jawaid Danish (Director from Canada).
