Preview: Bobby ‘Chamku’ Deol all set to display his sheen

Mumbai, Aug 29: Remember, when was Bobby Deol last seen on the big screen? Well, it was in the debacle called ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’, produced by Yash Raj Films. Bobby Deol is back in the theatres this Friday with the weirdly-titled ‘Chamku’ to revive his nose-diving career.

Starring charming Bobby Deol and the beautiful Priyanka Chopra, ‘Chamku’ is produced under the Deol family`s Vijeyta Films banner, which celebrates its silver jubilee this year. Don’t go by the title of the film, it’s not a comedy but a serious film based on the theme of naxalism. The storyline goes like this:

Chandrama Singh aka Chaman Varma aka Chamku (Bobby Deol) is raised by the Naxalites after he is a meek witness to the brutal killing of his father. After, he survives a police encounter, he gets picked up under a covert Governmental program jointly conceived by RAW and Intelligence Bureau to carry out political assassinations.

Harrowed by explosive intrigues, Chamku finds respite in Shubhi (Priyanka Chopra), a kindergarten teacher, and decides to lead a reformed life but a chanced encounter entangles him in the world of crime once again.

The story line reminds of oh-so-many underworld based flicks like Company, Vaastav and the like. The supporting cast includes talented actors like Danny Denzongpa, Irrfan Khan and Rajpal Yadav.

The music composed by Monty Sharma fails to strike a chord with the listeners. The look of the film is also dated, so, there is nothing much to look forward to in this film.

But we keep our fingers crossed for Bobby and hope that some miracle saves this movie and revives Bobby aka Chamku’s sagging career.
